Tata Motors told the green court that while the apex court’s orders pertained to private luxury vehicles, the Delhi government has banned registration of commercial diesel vehicles as well. New Delhi: Tata Motors moved the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday against a Delhi government notification banning registration of all diesel vehicles—commercial and private above 2000cc in the National Capital Territory. The Delhi government had said that the notification flowed from the Supreme Court’s orders issued in December 2015 banning the ban on sales of high-end diesel vehicles in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) in place. Subsequently, the apex court reserved orders in the case after indicating that the ban could be relaxed after imposing a green cess on registration. Separately, NGT allowed auto manufacturer Toyota Motors and industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) to be made parties in the case seeking to control vehicular pollution in the country before the NGT.
