NEW DELHI: On Friday, the 3-day long strike by 'BY6' (non- permanent) workers at the Tata Motors Jamshedpur plant came to an end with the management agreeing to provide permanent employment to 200 workers. An official statement issued by the Tata Motors confirmed the same. Issues like reform in payment schedule, life insurance for non- permanent workers and deciding upon permanency of workers in the future were also addressed. Moreover the management assured that no actions will be taken against the workers who took part in the protest, the agreement says. However, none of the issues apart from permanency of workers have a mention in the official statement issued by Tata Motors." We are happy with the decisions taken by the management as most of our demands have been met," said one of the workers who was part of the 3-day strike.About 6,000 workers of Tata Motors' Jamshedpur plant had been on strike since September 6 that ensued with a discrepancy in payment. The management blamed a 'technical glitch' for the errors in pay slips and cleared the dues after which the protesters raised their long-standing demand of permanency.
