Emma Bridgewater co-founded her self-named pottery company with her husband, Matthew Rice, in 1985. Her “eureka” moment came, she says, while she was in a china shop searching for cups and saucers for her mother. She realised that there was a gap in the market for pottery that was beautiful and practical. More than 30 years later, the business is one of the largest pottery manufacturers in the UK, with most of its products being made in its factory in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Many of Bridgewater’s designs are inspired by kitchen or garden motifs, and she is the author of Pattern & the Secrets of Lasting Design.
