A film club with only two screenings under its belt when the Covid-19 lockdown struck, is back – albeit with restrictions. The Pahīatua-based film group Tararua Cinematheque was founded in June by American-born filmmaker Derrick Sims, but the alert level 4 lockdown in August swiftly lowered the curtain. 1963 Bond film From Russia With Love was the first screening following the lockdown. That success was set to be followed up by a screening of The Wizard of Oz, but it was unable to go ahead due to the Covid-19 lockdown. Sims hoped to occasionally have filmmakers present at screenings or artists talking about why they loved a particular film.
