On Thursday, two Taranaki teens pleaded guilty in New Plymouth District Court to attacking a man who would not give them petrol at their request. Two Taranaki teens punched and smashed a fisherman in the head with a spade after he refused a request to give them petrol, a court heard. Goldby told the group "he would be back", and then he and his friend left the beach. The victim yelled at Teika to let go of his son, which resulted in Goldby punching the man in the mouth. Teika has admitted to hitting the man with the spade and also told police he had intentionally targeted the victim's head.
