Taranaki surf lifesavers have been nominated in the Surf Life Saving New Zealand National Awards of Excellence. A group of Taranaki sure lifesavers have been nominated for Rescue of the Year, after pulling two people from the water at Oakura Beach in January. They are among five Taranaki individuals who have received nominations for the Surf Life Saving New Zealand National Awards of Excellence. Aaron Wansbrough, of Fitzroy Surf Life Saving Club, is a nominee for Lifeguard of the Year. Malcom Heke, also of Fitzroy, has been nominated for Surf Official of the Year, while East End Surf Life Saving Club’s Joel Meuli has been nominated for Coach of the Year.
