Taranaki supermarkets hit with alcohol ban


Residents of the Taranaki town of Hawera will find it a bit harder to stock the beer fridge this weekend. Both Hawera Pak' n Save and Hawera Countdown have been slapped with a five day ban from selling alcohol starting on Saturday. Sergeant Andrew Russ said the supermarkets and Morrieson's Cafe and Bar were all caught selling alcohol to a 16-year-old during a sting in June. Sergeant Andrew Russ said the supermarkets decided to place the ban at the same time, so neither store benefited from the ban. "If one supermarket was suspended while the other one wasn't, then that one would then benefit.
