Taranaki state highway works resume under alert level 3

Non-essential highway works were paused during level 4 but can resume under level 3. (file photo)State highway works in Taranaki will resume with the move to alert level 3, after all non-essential work was paused during the level 4 lockdown. But, in an emailed statement, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency regional manager infrastructure delivery Lonnie Dalzell said level 3 was not a return to normal. Individual plans must be accepted by Waka Kotahi before a project could resume and would be closely monitored to ensure each contractor was complying with the requirements to look after the health and safety of workers and the travelling public. “Infrastructure plays a critical role in the economic recovery of New Zealand, so it’s important this work continues, but we will not compromise on the safety of road workers or of road users.”Maintenance work will also resume across Taranaki.
