State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said anyone found selling SIM cards to the Rohingya will be punished. Commenting on whether the SIM cards will be sold to the refugees, State Minister Tarana said: “The highest level of the government will decide that.”“The government is sincere in supporting the Rohingya refugees with food, health care and ease of communication. However, there are reports that dishonest traders are selling pre-registered SIM cards to the Rohingya. The state minister warned that those who sell SIM cards to other people after registering it themselves will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The Rohingya refugees will be able to use mobile telephones at a comparatively lower cost,” the state minister said.
