Tangail folk singer jailed after remand

Shariyat Bayati was arrested on Saturday from Bashil in Mymensingh's Bhaluka upazila. On the same day, the court issued a three day remand against the 10-day remand plea made by the police. On January 9, Maolana Faridul Islam, head teacher of Agdholla Darussunnah Forkania Hafizia Madrasa, filed a case against Shariyat Bayati under the Digital Security Act. According to the first information report (FIR), Shariyat made anti Islamic remarks at a folk music festival in Dhamrai, Dhaka, on December 24, 2019.
