DOMINICO ZAPATA/STUFF The Department of Conservation say some of the old pine trees in the Tamahere Reserve could provide an ideal habitat for the long-tailed bat. The Waikato District Council closed the Tamahere Reserve in late March, saying several pines pose a risk to the public.
