The classy animal’s trainer, Ruth Jefferson, reports this morning that he has had a setback in training and will not run again this season. Unbeaten in six runs over fences, Waiting Patiently had been lined up for the Bowl at Aintree next week, where he would very likely have got the soft ground he likes so much. It’s a pity for Jefferson, who is just starting out in her training career, and a pity for fans of jump racing because the Bowl may be a bit short of depth in the absence of Waiting Patiently. Hopefully this setback isn’t going to get in the way of his preparation for a tilt at the King George on Boxing Day. He got turned over at Southwell next time but the winner has since gone in again under a penalty.
