"Panjshir, which was the last hideout of the escapee enemy, is captured," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told a news conference. "We are in Panjshir and our Resistance will continue," he said on Twitter. The Taliban assured the people of the valley that there would be no "discriminatory act against them". Holding the Panjshir valley would be a major symbolic victory for the Taliban, who never succeeded in doing so when they last ruled the country. The Panjshir fighting has been the most prominent example of resistance to the Taliban.
