Talawila Kalpitiya area declared marine sanctuaryNewsThe Talawila coral reef area has been officially declared as the Talawila Kalpitiya Sanctuary. This step was taken in line with World Wildlife Day, which fell yesterday (03). The Ministry of Environment said that protecting wildlife and plant life for a sustainable biosphere and an evergreen future is a key government policy. The Ministry said that steps are already being taken to safeguard Sri Lanka’s biodiversity by amending existing laws and regulations and introducing new legal provisions. This year’s main commemoration ceremony was held under the guidance of Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Patabendi and Deputy Environment Minister Anton Jayakody and was presided over by Ministry Secretary K. R. Uduwawala at Zone VI (Lunugamvehera) of Yala National Park.
