NASA has created a stunning new immersive visualisation that lets you explore the Milky Way in 360 degrees. To create the visualisation, NASA combined supercomputer simulations with data from its Chandra X-ray Observatory. To interact with the visualisation in video format, click on it and drag your cursor around. Meanwhile, red shows UV emissions from regions of cooler gas, and yellow shows the coolest gases. Further away you may notice collisions of fast stellar winds - these are thought to provide most of the gas that is seen by Chandra.
