TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taipei's envoy to Washington has used a letter about Liu Xiaobo in the Washington Post to call for the release of Taiwanese democracy activist Lee Ming-che (李明哲). "Mr. Liu's lifelong beliefs are the core values we live by in Taiwan, namely an abiding respect for human rights and due process of law." "We call for the immediate release of Lee Ming-che, a Taiwanese national and human rights activist who has been imprisoned by Chinese authorities since March." Kao, 64, previously served as Taiwan's envoy to Italy and Hungary. Shortly after Liu's death, President Tsai Ing-wen posted her own statement to Twitter.
