Taiwan's Hsu wins women's 53kg weightlifting gold


RIO DE JANEIRO - Taiwan's Hsu Shu-ching sensationally won Olympic gold in the women's 53kg weightlifting competition here Sunday after Chinese favourite Li Yajun failed to register a clean and jerk. It comes after 25-year-old Hsu won silver at London 2012. But Li failed on her three attempts at the clean and jerk, first at 123kg then twice on 126kg. Tawain's Hsu Shu-Ching competes during the women's 53kg weightlifting event in Rio de Janeiro on August 7, 2016Hsu lifted 100kg in the snatch and 112kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 212kg. It meant Hsu was left in first place with an attempt to spare, which she declined to use, finishing with 12 kg ahead of Diaz and 13 ahead of Yoon.
