Taiwanese ‘illegal recruiter’ fallsA TAIWANESE manager of a lending company and several of his employees were arrested on Thursday during an entrapment at their office in Manila. Also arrested was Alexandra Balagtas, 39, collection officer of the lending firm, and nine others who were not immediately identified. Verification with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration showed that 8 Carat Cash and Credit Company is not authorized to recruit workers for deployment abroad. Roel Obusan, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) head, identified the arrested Taiwanese as Yu Chao-Lai, general manager of 8 Carat Cash and Credit Company at Unit D, 5th floor Marc 200 Tower, Taft and Quirino avenues in Manila. Obusan said the entrapment was conducted after four overseas worker applicants for Taiwan requested police assistance after they were endorsed to apply for a loan with Yu’s firm for the processing fee.
