Taiwan ranks 13th in Asia-Pacific for expat payTAIPEI -- Taiwan dropped one notch to 13th in the latest ranking of expatriate pay packages in the Asia-Pacific region conducted by ECA International, a consultancy firm. The data shows that expatriate pay packages in Taiwan have continued to slip over the past four years, dropping to 13th from 10th in 2012. China was second, averaging US$290,000 per year for middle managers, up 5 percent from last year. Expatriate packages are lower in Taiwan than in some of the region's other economies, thanks largely to housing rent and international schooling being cheaper, said Lee Quane, Asian regional director at ECA International. Japan was the highest in terms of expatriate pay packages, averaging US$329,000 per year for middle managers, but the figure was lower than last year's US$375,000, mainly because of the sharp depreciation of the Japanese yen against the U.S. dollar.
