When the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) took over Taiwan, he kept his job and was moved to the highway department. Cheng befriended future stars like Hung Yi-feng (洪一峰) and began singing with them on stage after they noticed his talent. Chengsheng Broadcasting Corporation hosted one of the three singing competitions Cheng Jih-ching won in 1957.
