Finance Minister Ernie Steeves presented a budget March 10 that projected $160.9 million in lottery revenues this year. That estimate has been undone by the COVID-19 virus and its effect on operations of the Atlantic Lottery Corporation. That's well below the 16 and 17 million tickets sold on the same-sized jackpots on Jan. 3 and 7. All ALC video gambling sites, like the bar inside the Bowlarama in Saint John, have been closed since midnight on March 15. With mediocre ticket sales on large national jackpot lotteries, video lottery venues closed tight and sports fans being offered table tennis instead of playoff hockey, it's a safe bet ALC revenues are well below budget.
