Borwankar explained that Tata Motors had to keep the price of the Nano low to keep it affordable. On the future of the car, he said the company was working on alternatives of the Nano. Tata Motors has sold 260 units of the Nano in July 2017 against 701 cars in the same month a year ago. Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry had questioned the logic behind continuing the production of a non-profitable car such as the Nano. The expanded portfolio will help the automobile maker garner market share as it aims to move to the third position in the passenger car market over the next few years.
