TMAC condemns Cambodia mine use

TMAC condemns Cambodia mine useListen to this articleThe Thailand Mine Action Centre (TMAC) has condemned what it described as repeated violations by Cambodia of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, also known as the Ottawa Convention, following another landmine incident on Monday that seriously injured a Thai soldier along the Thai–Cambodian border. TMAC spokesman Col Siwa Whang-akat said Sgt Sujin Jitkreeyan, a driver with the 1st Cavalry Division's 8th Engineer Battalion, was injured on Monday while conducting mine-clearing operations along the border. He also became the 11th Thai soldier to lose a limb since border tensions resurfaced. Thailand, the TMAC spokesman said, has gathered substantial evidence indicating the possession and use of anti-personnel landmines, which pose long-term risks to military personnel and civilians. The TMAC urged treaty members to strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.
