Toronto FC designated player Alejandro Pozuelo is following in the footsteps of former Reds star Sebastian Giovinco. The Spanish playmaker was named one of the three finalists for Major League Soccer’s newcomer of the year award Monday. Giovinco won the newcomer award in 2015, the same year he won league MVP honours. He was a starter in the MLS all-star game, was named the MLS player of the week in April and was included in the MLS team of the week five times. The other finalists for the newcomer award are Spanish attacking midfielder Carles Gil of New England and Heber, a Brazilian forward with New York City FC.
