BEIRUT—Syria’s government and Russia have intensified airstrikes and dropped barrel bombs on the last rebel stronghold in Syria, renewing fears of a military offensive to recapture the area despite the United Nations warning it would cause a humanitarian catastrophe. Aircraft this week fired missiles and dropped barrel bombs in the northwest province of Idlib, according to rebels and monitoring groups. The strikes have targeted civilian areas, including hospitals, according to the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations.
