The male resident students of Murari Chand College of Sylhet were forced to leave their dormitory on Thursday after it was closed sine die as Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and students of the college unit vandalised its 39 rooms. Sources said the followers of Titu Chowdhury, a Chhatra League leader of the college unit, and the student front’s city unit league leaders and activists loyal to its Joint Secretary Sanjay loyal locked into spates of clashes on Wednesday night to establish supremacy on the college campus. Chased by their rival group, Sanjay and his fellow leaders and activists took shelter in the dormitory later on. The college authorities formed a three-member committee to probe the incident, which will submit its report in a week. Confirming the incident, Shahporan police station’s the two groups have long been engaged into rivalry in bid to establish their dominance on the college campus.
