Sydney fireworks: Thousands sign petition to cancel 'insulting' show


More than a quarter of a million people have signed a petition seeking to cancel New Year's Eve fireworks in Sydney, but they will go ahead regardless. In response to the petition, Sydney lord mayor Clover Moore on December 10 said the fireworks were planned 15 months in advance and couldn't be canned. The Harbour Bridge will be closed in both directions from 11pm until 1.30am, a statement from the Transport Management Centre said on Friday. More than 4000 spectator vessels are expected on Sydney Harbour.
