Swimming: Jian Han splashes into semis in Gold Coast with new PB

GOLD COAST: Tern Jian Han (pic) sprung a surprise by making the semi-finals of the 50m backstroke at the Commonwealth Games. Jian Han, whose previous best was only 26.12, is also not far off the national record of 25.67 set by Alex Lim Keng Liat in the 2002 Manchester Games. "I'm happy to make the semi-finals because I never really expected it," said Jian Han. "The time was also a big surprise because I was not swimming well prior to this. There was however no joy for Welson Sim and Keith Lim Kit Sern in the 100m frreestyle.
