Sweden Ends Probe Into Nord Stream Pipeline Explosions

By Dominic ChoppingSTOCKHOLM--Swedish prosecutors have closed their investigation into the Nord Stream pipeline explosions after finding no evidence that Swedes were involved, The Swedish Prosecution Authority said Wednesday. The Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines carry natural gas from Russia to Germany and were hit by a series of underwater explosions in September 2022, prompting investigations from Germany, Sweden and Denmark--with help from the U.S. and other Western allies. "Nothing has emerged to indicate that Sweden or Swedish citizens were involved in the attack," it said. "The conclusion of the investigation is that Swedish jurisdiction does not apply and that the investigation therefore should be closed." The authority said Sweden has been able to hand over material that can be used as evidence in the German investigation, which is continuing.
