'Suspicious' fires at Forbury home

Fire and police are investigating after two "suspicious" fires at a home in the Dunedin suburb of Forbury early this morning. Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Mau Barbara told the ODT they were called to the Surrey St property about 2.50am, where crews found a pillow smouldering in a bedroom and thick smoke coming from the laundry. Crews from St Kilda and Lookout Point quickly put the bedroom fire out, but it took until 5.10am for the laundry blaze to be contained, and both were suspicious, he said. Mr Barbara said police at the scene early on were using dogs to try and find those responsible. Police and fire investigators remained at the property this morning and a cordon was around the scene.
