The court heard that O’Leary had no previous convictions. He said his client was highly embarrassed by what happened and apologised to the injured party and the gardaí. Judge Joanne Carroll said a victim impact statement provided by the injured party indicated that she was terrified by the attack. The court heard that the injured party had to replace the cooker because of the damage. At a sentencing hearing the court was told that O’Leary had paid €1,750 compensation to the injured party.
