A suspected ringleader of a robber gang has been killed in a “gunfight” with police at Gobindahuda village under Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district. Mirajul Islam Mia, 47, son of Hafez Mandal of Hatibhanga village, was killed in the incident early Thursday. Assistant Superintendent of Chuadanga police Ahsan Habib said Mira was a member of a notorious robber gang “Jamu-Akram Bahini” and was wanted in nine cases, including that of robbery. At one stage, Mira’s associates opened fire and hurled bombs targeting the police, in a bid to snatch him away from the law enforcers. The law enforcers also recovered one shutter gun, two improvised bombs, and some sharp weapons from the spot.
