The shootout took place around 3.30am on Thursday near an area known as Mohishadanga, where 38-year-old Touhidul Islam died, said Police Inspector Md Ratan Sheikh. Touhidul, resident of Shailkupa Upazila of Jhenaidah district, was detained on Monday by a group of people who identified themselves as members of the Detective Branch. Police conducted a drive on secret information that a gang was preparing to commit a robbery on the highway. “Touhidul was found wounded on the scene and rushed to the Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead,” he said. He was named in a complaint in Rajbari, said the victim’s brother who identified his body in hospital.
