The incident took place in the Sonaimukhi Khal area early Monday. The deceased robber could not yet be identified. The coast guard returned fire in self-defence, triggering a shootout that left one forest robber dead on the spot and the rest fleeing deeper inside the Sundarbans,” he said. Coast guard members recovered the body, along with four firearms and one round of bullets, the official added.
