The incident occurred at around 8pm at the Koroibunia area under the Ratnapalong union of the upazila, confirmed Cox's Bazar BGB 34 Commanding Officer Lt Col Ali Haider Azad Ahmed. Around 50,000 contraband yaba pills, a locally-made gun, two bullet cartridges were recovered from the scene, said the BGB officer. He said: “Acting on a tip-off, a BGB team took position at the Koroibunia border to bust a consignment of yaba pills entering Bangladesh from Myanmar." “Upon spotting a group of suspected smugglers, the BGB team challenged them which led to the gang to open fire. There, he was declared dead by the on-duty doctors.”The body was later sent to the morgue of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, he added.
