Suspect in Batangas student rape-slay nabbedBATANGAS: The suspect in the rape-slay of a college student in Lipa City last week was arrested by the police. Police Col. Edwin Quilates, Lipa City Police chief, said suspect Jorge Benedicto, 24, a security guard from Barangay San Mariano, Victoria in Oriental Mindoro, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon. Benedicto is the suspect in the rape-slay of Fidex Therese Maranan, 21, a fourth year student of De La Salle Lipa. The victim’s cousin, Romulo Maranan, discovered her body on May 17 at her residence in Miracle Heights Subdivision, Barangay Antipolo del Norte in Lipa City. A security footage showed Benedicto outside the guard’s barracks on the night of May 15 casually walking towards Saint Rafael Street corner Lourdes Street of the same subdivision where the victim’s body was found.
