Survey of Toronto drop-in users highlights inner-city needs


Howard Ramonaitis says he was “punched in the head” for snoring in a homeless shelter. “I think that speaks to how marginalized they are.”Almost two-thirds of respondents said they had slept in a homeless shelter in the past two years. Shelter users said they turned to them for safety, hot meals and access to other services. More staff, smaller rooms, lockers and specialized services for people with mental health problems were suggested as solutions. More than two-thirds of respondents said they lived with mental health problems and/or addictions.
