VANCOUVER— If you ask Gurpreet Singh Sahota, public safety is “absolutely, the number one issue” on the minds of Surrey voters in the upcoming federal election. Sahota, co-founder of community safety group Wake Up Surrey, hopes Surrey voters will demand action from federal leaders to address concerns about policing, crime and gang activity. Gill is a former member of Wake Up Surrey, and while the candidate has since left the advocacy group, he told the Star Vancouver that public safety is his main concern. The Wake Up Surrey co-chair sent a seven-point federal public safety platform to all parties, outlining what he sees as the the priorities for improving public safety in Surrey. But earlier this year, Scheer made a stop at a Surrey Board of Trade meeting to answer questions about public safety.
