Surrey mayor says recent shooting indicates need for local police force

Soon after, McCallum released a statement indicating that the incident was further evidence that the city needed a local police force — an idea that he promoted heavily during his run for mayor. RCMP Deputy Commissioner Brenda Butterworth-Carr released a statement condemning McCallum’s comments as possibly undermining their investigation and discouraging people from coming forward. I will not allow public confidence in policing to be undermined or eroded.” Cherise Seucharan is a Vancouver-based reporter covering health and safety/youth.
