Others take more nuanced approaches, looking at how past plagues and pandemics have driven change, sometimes for the better, and made their predictions based on that history. Though some are more soundly argued than others, what many of these sorts of articles do is increase my anxiety about the future. The fear is these predictions seem to threaten all the things we love about the way things were. So often the future predicted and dreamed about is closer to the way things were than not. We have to be wary now, but the past teaches us the future is hard to predict.
