Supreme Court to hear appeal from Daniel Pearl’s family today

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court will take up today an appeal by the family of slain journalist Daniel Pearl challenging the acquittal of the prime suspect in the 2002 murder of the Wall Street Journal reporter. Sheikh was acquitted, the verdict had said, after the prosecution failed to prove the case against him and three other suspects. A handwritten letter by Sheikh acknowledged his involvement in Pearl’s killing in Karachi, Faisal Siddiqi, the counsel for Pearl’s family, told The Associated Press. In the letter dated July 19, 2019, Sheikh said his involvement in Pearl’s death was “a relatively minor one.” Siddiqi said Sheikh implicates himself in Pearl’s murder by his admission. Pearl’s wife Marianne Pearl gave birth to a son, Adam, in May 2002.
