Supreme Court raps Centre, questions delays in judicial appointments : India, News

Alleging that the government was bringing the crucial judicial appointments to a 'grinding halt', the apex court warned that it would be forced to judicially interfere in the matter. The apex court further asked the Attorney General to give details of compliance of decisions of Collegium with respect to appointment and transfer of High Court judges which include Chief Justices of High Courts. Coming down heavily on the Central government for delaying the judicial appointments, the Supreme Court today questioned the Attorney General as to why Centre has not responded to the suggestions made by the collegium. Despite AGs repeated assurances , the apex court retorted by saying that appointments and transfers have not been executed despite clearance by Collegium eight months ago. Briefcase 1 Government was bringing the crucial judicial appointments to a 'grinding halt'2 Centre has been given four weeks time to respond3 SC hasn't issued a formal notice to the Centre yet.
