Supreme Court justice opts for disability retirement – The Manila Times

The Supreme Court will soon have another vacancy after one of its justices requested to retire long before reaching the mandatory retirement age. A well-placed source in the court told The Manila Times that Justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla has asked the court en banc to allow her to go on disability retirement. Padilla is the 188th associate justice of the Supreme Court. Prior to her appointment to the high court, she was associate justice in the Court of Appeals for 14 years. She joined the judiciary in 1996 as presiding judge of Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 29 in Manila and was promoted as presiding judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 38 also in Manila in 2000.
