On November 30, the SC had directed that the national anthem be played in cinema halls across the country before the screening of a film. A truckload of criticism appears to have forced the Supreme Court to realise its error and eat its hat. Now it appears as if India’s Supreme Court has gone out on a limb to strengthen this fledgling bond. There are glaring faultlines- both legal and moral, in the Supreme Court’s ruling. The court ruled that students belonging to the sect cannot be penalised for not singing the national anthem.
