The court gave the state government six weeks to reply to it.The court also slammed the Tamil Nadu government for allowing people to defy its order on jallikattu, and for failing to maintain law and order in the state. The court had banned the controversial sport in 2014, on the grounds that it was cruel to bulls. They said the law was illegal and unconstitutional.Tamil Nadu legislators passed the Bill on January 23, after the state witnessed pro-jallikattu protests on an unprecedented scale. The protests took a violent turn last Monday, after police in Chennai started evicting protesters at Marina Beach - the epicentre of this year's pro-jallikattu povement.Inputs from agencies
