Supporters brave the rain for 30th annual Ride for Heart

In the name of life-saving research, 15,000 cyclists and 5,000 on foot braved the rainy weather Sunday for the 30th annual Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart event Sunday. In Toronto, the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway were closed to vehicles for the event which organizers say exceeded their fundraising goal of six million dollars. “The funds raised will support 850 researchers in medical institutes, universities, hospitals and communities across Canada, working on breakthrough treatments that save lives and improve survivor recovery,” the release says. It continued, “Funds raised also support Heart & Stroke’s health promotion and advocacy efforts to help meet our mission to prevent disease, save lives and promote recovery from heart disease and stroke.”Donations can still be made until June 9.
