Concept plans for a new Countdown supermarket in Balclutha, which is expected to bring 80 jobs to the town. Countdown, part of the Woolworths NZ group of supermarkets (formerly Progressive Enterprises), revealed yesterday a new Balclutha outlet had received resource consent recently. The supermarket giant also confirmed it hopes to build a 3000sqm supermarket in Centennial Ave, in Alexandra. Mr Stockhill said the company was excited to be a part of a proposal to bring a full-service supermarket to the town. A Countdown supermarket would offer fresh competition for Alexandra’s New World, which had a $10million upgrade to its Centennial Ave premises in 2016.
