So, the partially crowdfunded sequel was something of a one-weekend wonder, although if you note its frontloaded $15.1m opening weekend (from a $7.9m Friday) you might argue it was a one-night-wonder. Super Troopers 2 was not intended to be a leggy theatrical attraction. Assuming it crawls to $29.3 million (yes, I'm being optimistic), it'll surpass the inflation-adjusted total of the first Super Troopers ($22m in 2002) and will have earned 57% more than the first film in unadjusted domestic grosses. It was never going to play beyond opening weekend, but as long as the studio took that into account, Super Troopers 2 was free to be a mini-event movie and a true-blue breakout sequel.
