The assistant coach revealed on Tuesday that Super Rugby Aotearoa would be his last campaign with the side, after four years in Dunedin. Teaukura Moetaua/Getty-Images Highlanders assistant coach Mark Hammett made the decision to move on at the end of 2019. The Highlanders welcomed back crowds to Forsyth Barr Stadium in round one of Super Rugby Aotearoa but it's clear that it will take more than that to get rugby back on its feet. After head coaching stints with the Hurricanes, Cardiff and Sunwolves, Hammett slotted into an assistant coaching role with the Highlanders in 2017. Typically, New Zealand Rugby funds two coaching positions at each Super Rugby franchise and that arrangement will continue, with Dermody moving up the ladder when Hammett departs.
