Sunderland loanwatch as Harry Gardiner hits brace on Blyth debut, but two other loanees exit FA Cup

On-loan Sunderland striker Harry Gardiner wasted no time in making his mark for Blyth Spartans, marking his debut with two goals against Bishop's Stortford at the weekend. JJ Hooper added Blyth's third goal 15 minutes from the end, taking advantage of a slip by a defender. In the FA Cup third round, on-loan Sunderland defender Joe Anderson played 78 minutes as the League One side were beaten 1-0 by Phil Parkinson's League Two Wrexham in the Anglo-Welsh border derby at the New Meadow. Shrewsbury, who are currently 15th in the table, are back in league action this weekend when they entertain Stevenage. Also in the FA Cup, on-loan Sunderland keeper Alex Bass played as League Two AFC Wimbledon were beaten 3-1 by Championship promotion hopefuls - and the Black Cats' next opponents - Ipswich Town at Plough Lane.
